"Our work takes us far and wide"
The Role of an Estimator in the
construction industry is to research and to provide costs towards building work
or a service to win a contract for a client. We usually become involved in a project in its early stages, often
whilst in competition with other companies.
We are concerned with
pricing a contract competitively but need to ensure that, if the builder is
successful, the work can be completed whilst making a reasonable profit for the
contractor.
An estimator compiles
an estimate by assessing the material and labour costs required to carry out
the specific task, analysing quotes obtained from different sub-contractors and
suppliers.
Estimates can be
produced based on bills of quantities, schedules, drawings, specification and
other documents provided by a client or architect.
It is important for
an estimator to be a good planner and as they are often required to make
judgements/assessments in relation to costs from limited information.
